A Kyrie Irving ‘Uncle Drew’ Movie Is On the Way

When Kyrie Irving first started filming his Uncle Drew commercials for Pepsi, he never thought it would turn to this. The point guard couldn’t make the playoffs for the Cleveland Cavaliers, he wasn’t being talked about as one of the best in the league, but his ad spots were popular.

Fast forward five years and Kyrie has his own sneaker, he plays with one of the best players of all time in LeBron James, he’s got a championship ring and is about to star in a movie.

Yes, the Uncle Drew character is turning into a big screen feature film. Jay Longino will be writing and directing the project, which is being described as a “love letter to basketball.” The movie will keep Irving in his own role, but the plot consists of him going on the road to recruit the old squad he used to play with at Rucker Park in Harlem for a new tournament.

Expect some NBA players to make cameos in the film too.
