Lakers Shut Down LeBron James for the Season to Heal Groin Injury

The season is officially over for LeBron James and in the first time in thirteen years, he will not be in the postseason. After missing the playoffs with the Los Angeles Lakers last week, the organization has revealed that James will not play in the last six games to let his groin fully heal.

The news comes as a contradiction to what we heard from James a few weeks ago, after he said he would continue playing regardless of their playoff chances and had no plans to shut down for the rest of the season.

Here is what Magic Johnson had to say in a statement:

“After consulting with our team doctors and medical staff, we have decided to hold LeBron out of games for the remainder of the season. This decision will allow his groin to fully heal, and is best for the future success of both LeBron and the Lakers.”

This snaps LeBron’s streak of eight straight NBA Finals appearances and marks the sixth year in a row that the Lake Show do not make it to the playoffs.

In 55 games, LBJ finishes the season averaging 27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists. The Lakers went 28-27 with him on the court.

Los Angeles is currently 34-42 and sit at the 11th spot in the West.
