The Los Angeles Lakers Rehire Magic Johnson

Sell the team to Magic and Kobe though. . . .

As the Los Angeles Lakers look to improve in a few months, in potentially landing another top three NBA Draft pick, the team has announced major changes. Co-owner and president, Jeanie Buss has revealed that she’s planning to re-evaluate the direction of her franchise – while not addressing whether or not her brother Jim will remain on board. Today, she’s announced that the Lakers have officially hired Magic Johnson to serve as her direct adviser to the team.

Back in 2014, Jim said that if Los Angeles wasn’t a title contender within three or four years, then he would step down from his position, without having to force his sister to fire him. Well, with this hiring on Mr. Johnson, the future doesn’t look bright for Jimmy or his friend, Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak. With the exception of Dwight Howard in 2012, Los Angeles has gone five full seasons without being able to attract any type of major free agent.

The team has begun to focus on the post-Kobe era, headlined by D’Angelo Russell and Brandon Ingram. However, while those two future stars continue to develop their games – this move by Jeanie is definitely a step in the right direction for league’s biggest franchise return to prominence.
