It was a historic night at STAPLES Center, as the Los Angeles Lakers put two jerseys in the rafted at the top of the arena. Both of those numbers belonged to Kobe Bryant.
The Black Mamba had a legendary ceremony today, getting praise from everyone from the front office and the fans in attendance. Other legends like SHAQ, Bill Russell, Allen Iverson and more were in the building to see Kobe’s big unveiling. One name not in the crowd: Phil Jackson.
Magic Johnson and Jeanie Buss had words for Bryant before he got on the microphone and spoke from his heart. He told a story about his wife’s once in the lifetime gift before his last game, how much he did it for all the jerseys in the rafters and the fact the young team the Lakers have now need to do it for them too.
He thanked the fans, organization, his family and every player who inspired him.
