Magic Johnson Explains Free Agent Signings, Strategy Against Warriors

One of the biggest questions surrounding LeBron James going to the Los Angeles Lakers has been why Magic Johnson and company signed the likes of Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee to the team to pair next to the king.

We’ve heard speculation about why they signed these specific guys and some reports have said that the Lakers wanted to give LeBron some toughness, defensive intensity and players that could create their own shot, instead of shooters like he’s used to.

Magic Johnson sat down with ESPN during the NBA Summer League championship game to talk to about this very thing and L.A.’s plans to combat the Golden State Warriors. In his conversation, he said that he watched the playoffs and saw how certain teams played and built the team around that. He also mentioned the fact that he brought in proven winners, considering Rondo and McGee have won championships.

He had more to say about other topics, but the stuff he said about the Lakers was the most interesting. If you didn’t catch it live, you can watch above.
