Magic Johnson Speaks on Trade Rumors, Business of the NBA

When the Los Angeles Lakers signed Magic Johnson to run the basketball operations for the organization, he promised big time players were going to come in to ball for the purple and gold. If not, he would step down from his position.

Though they got LeBron James in the offseason, others haven’t been as excited to play for the Lake Show. Most recently, they tried and failed to acquire Anthony Davis.

After the trade deadline, Magic has come out to speak to the media about those rumors surrounding AD and the young core. He said the New Orleans Pelicans weren’t acting in good faith when it came to negotiations, but emphasized that the league is a business and the players know it’s the nature of the game. He also accused the media of treating the young guys like babies.

Johnson also spoke on new acquisitions Reggie Bullock and Mike Muscala and what they bring to the team going into the second half of the season.

Interestingly, he also said Ben Simmons reached out to learn from him and he wants to meet with him in the summer if the Philadelphia 76ers and NBA sign off on it. Of course, he doesn’t want another tampering fine to come from it.
