Michael Vick Has Officially Retired From the NFL

After writing a very heartfelt letter to the city of Atlanta, Michael Vick has announced his retirement.

The No. 1 pick in the 2001 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons was a legend in the city for the span of his career there, taking the team to multiple playoff appearances and even to the NFC Championship game in 2004.

Unfortunately, a 21-month stint in prison for running a dog fighting ring brought his breakout career to a screeching halt.

In 2009, the Philadelphia Eagles gave Vick a second chance, signing the quarterback after his release from jail. He spent three seasons there and even made the Pro Bowl the next year during his tenure there. Ultimately, injuries got the best of him and he moved on to opportunities with the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers in the following years.

“I think it’s time. I think going through the 2016 season without playing and being able to be a spectator and watch the game and enjoy it from afar and root for a lot of the players and coaches I once played for, I think kind of summed it all up for me.

So now I think I’m officially ready, I’m ready to move on to different things in my life and different facets of my life.”

After 13 years in the league, Mike’s career ends with 133 passing touchdowns and 36 rushing touchdowns. He still holds the record for all-time leading rusher among quarterbacks with 6109 yards.

Shoutout to Vick. We need a 30 for 30 on his life.
