Milwaukee Bucks Fire Head Coach Jason Kidd

After three and a half years with the Milwaukee Bucks, the organization has decided to part ways with head coach Jason Kidd. For now, assistant coach Joe Pruntry will serve as interim coach, starting with tonight’s match against the Phoenix Suns.

Kidd had not been notified by the organization when the news broke.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the franchise decided to fire Kidd because of the team’s record this year (23-22) and current seeding in the Eastern Conference (they sit at 8th), as well as organizational turmoil and not being on the same page. At the start of the season, there were high hopes for the team in terms of their position in the East, taking that next step into a powerhouse, but they have not lived up to expectations as of now.

Here’s what the team said about their decision:

“Many factors went into this decision, but ultimately we decided that a fresh approach and a change in leadership are needed to continue elevating our team to the next level and bringing us closer to our goal of winning championships. We believe that making this change now is important for the organization and gives our players the best chance to reach their full potential this season and beyond.”

With the rise of Giannis Antetokounmpo in the league and the young core in place, the coaching vacancy will be one that’s attractive for many.

Reports are saying that the Greek Freak is “devastated” at the news of Coach Kidd’s firing. He was close with Jason, as he’s risen to be a star in the NBA.
