New York Knicks Fire Head Coach Derek Fisher

Derek Fisher

Phil Jackson’s protege is gone

The Derek Fisher experiment in New York is officially over, as the Knicks organization has decided to part ways with the rookie coach after a year and a half. The move comes after losing five straight games and nine out of the last 10 games.

KNICKSTAPE has managed to go 23-31 on the season, but with the team on a losing skid and potentially dropping out of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference, upper management has decided to go in a different direction as the All-Star break looms.

Fisher was brought in by Phil Jackson after he made his move to New York and was supposed to turn the franchise around, implementing the triangle offense Jackson made famous in Chicago with the Bulls and Los Angeles with the Lakers, that helped him successfully win multiple championships with both organizations. Unfortunately, that strategy has not worked with the Knicks, as Fisher went 17-65 in his first season with the team. Reports claim he was having a hard time making a transition from player to head coach.

In the short term, assistant Kurt Rambis will take over as interim coach, with former Jackson players Brian Shaw and Luke Walton being looked at as replacements.
