Next season, the NFL will be adopting a new rule in place to ban usage of the N-word during games on-field. John Wooten, of The Fritz Pollard Alliance has revealed the league is set in place for a permanent banning of the word before the 2014 season begins. Uttering the word will result in an immediate 15-yard penalty for offensive and defense players.

Some may say the infamous Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin saga may have been the final straw for the league to put a ban to the word, but we’re certain it won’t stop the word being thrown around in the locker room. While other professional leagues are waiting to adapt the new penalty as well, the NFL’s next mission is to look into homophobic slur banning.

After the jump, you can watch Common featured on this week’s episode of Outside The Lines, as he examine the new ban and the word with Michael Wilbon and Jason Whitlock.
