Phil Jackson Responds to Kristaps Porzingis Trade Rumors

Goodbye Godzingis

Many around the NBA have been scratching their heads at the news coming out of New York involving the Knicks. After the controversy surrounding Carmelo Anthony last season, their prized center Kristaps Porzingis has managed to put himself in the Phil Jackson doghouse after skipping end of the season exit meetings.

With trade rumors flying rampant about the one piece of the Knicks puzzle that actually turned out to be a jewel, it was only a matter of time before we got information from both sides about it.

In an interview with MSG Network tonight, Jackson admitted to taking calls about their big man, but isn’t interested completely at the offers. He only wants to do the best for the franchise moving forward. Phil is looking for at least two starters and a draft pick for the gawd, with the ‘Melo situation still up in the air. Could he bargain for Josh Jackson in the NBA Draft? The Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns have been interested suitors so far.

It wasn’t all negative, though. Phil called Kristaps a ‘unicorn’ and that he is.

It seems like he was pretty upset about him skipping the interviews and mentioned the fact that it’s the first time it has ever happened to him in 25 years of coaching and beyond. The good thing is the two sides are in contact, but it seems like shit has hit the fan.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a player over 25 years of coaching, maybe 30, not coming to an exit meeting, so it’s not happened to me. I know it happens to other people and other players. His brother and his agent have downplayed it, but still, it’s a chance for a person to express themselves and I had a real good relationship with Kristaps over the last two years. So it was kind of surprising.”

Good luck to the KNICKSTAPE fanbase swallowing this bit of news.
