Rachel Nichols vs. Maria Taylor
Rachel Nichols vs. Maria Taylor beef story examined after Kwame Brown steps in to check Stephen Jackson for speaking out on the situation. After witnessing Kwame Brown expose Stephen A. Smith earlier this summer for his inner workings at ESPN, the company is under more backlash. Sunday morning, our friends at the New York Times, broke an article regarding some disparaging comments from Rachel Nichols discussing losing her spot to Maria Taylor.
Initially, it was revealed that Ms. Taylor had received a lowball offer from the company, as her contract is set to end in later this month. However, thanks to Mrs. Nichols comments, Maria Taylor has become the biggest story in sports at ESPN; as they’ll be forced to pay her in the same ballpark as Stephen A.
For those that don’t know, Stephen A. Smith, who keeps the lights on at ESPN, isn’t even a top 5 highest paid on-screen personality.
In previous years, we’ve seen various black people relieved of their positions for stepping on the wrong toes with certain people in power. That includes: Paul Pierce, Harold Reynolds, Pam Oliver, Cheryl Miller, Jason Whitlock, Jemele Hill, Cari Champion, Kristina Pink, Taylor Rooks, Rob Parker and others.
Now, in the conversation, the top advisor of LeBron James was on the phone call with Rachel Nichols, where the notion of the Black Lives Matter movement being a focal point in NBA games were mentioned.
It’ll be interesting to see if this story is swept under the rug or if ESPN does a rare good deed in taking disciplinary action. With Maria Taylor essentially becoming the face of the network overnight, we expect the network to overpay her from jumping ship to Fox Sports.
When Rachel Nichols lost her TV job to Maria Taylor because of diversity pressure per Nichols, who was her first call? LeBron’s top advisor. If you ever wondered why LeBron gets a free pass for his idiocy, here you go. ESPN’s talent is working with him: pic.twitter.com/pRMX3wdIch
