Ryan Fitzpatrick and New York Jets Finally Agree on 1-Year Deal

It has been long and arduous months for Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets, as both sides have been on opposite ends of contract disputes.

Today, the stalling has ceased and both sides have agreed on a 1-year, $12 million dollar deal. The Jets previously offered Fitz a 3-year deal worth $24 million, with $16 million guaranteed, but the quarterback thought he was worth more than that, especially after the year he had last season.

Adam Schefter reports that the contract has $3 million dollars in incentives, which can make the figure total $15 million when it’s all said and done.

This finally ends the saga the franchise did not want any parts of this off-season, as well. All the back and forth about figures felt like a headache and the two sides almost losing out on each other, even though they wanted to continue the great run they had last season. New York tried to replace Fitz, but ultimately came up short and had to give the money the man deserved.

Luckily for Jets fans, this means Geno Smith will not be starting when the season starts September 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Neither will Christian Hackenberg or Bryce Petty.

Although the Jets only have $9 million in cap space, they will have to make some roster changes to bring back their 31-touchdown quarterback from 2015.
