The Cleveland Browns Plan to Release Johnny Manziel

Will Johnny find a football home this spring?

Over the weekend at his home in Fort Worth, Texas, an altercation occurred between Johnny Manziel and his ex-girlfriend, which local authorities received a call about a disturbance between the two. This happened just weeks after the former Heisman winner failed to check in with medical staff for concussion protocol and missed their season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While the woman told police concerns for the well-being of Manziel, she declined to cooperate on detailing the entire story. Whether or not this is the same ex-girlfriend he had an incident in October after a vehicle argument remains to be seen, but this latest story was the nail in the coffin for his tenure in Ohio. Cleveland Browns EVP of Football Operations Sashi Brown released a statement today, inferring that they would be releasing Johnny the day after the Super Bowl next Monday.

“We’ve been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field. Johnny’s continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization. His status with our team will be addressed when permitted by league rules. We will have no further comment at this time.”
