University of Kentucky, John Calipari Agree to 7-Year/$52M Extension

The Kentucky Wildcats came up short in the National Title 2 months ago, but win with re-signing John Calipari!

Over the last 3 seasons, John Calipari has raised his stocked significantly in the collegiate level as arguably the top coach in all of Men’s Basketball. In only 5 seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats, Calipari’s made the Final Four three times and even won a National Title in 2012 against rival Kansas Jayhawks. In recent weeks, Coach C was linked to the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers for a potential return to the NBA sidelines, but the University of Kentucky acted quickly with a lengthy extension.

The school announced late last night, the two sides have officially inked a seven-year, $52.2 million contract, locking down John through 2020-21. This comes just days after Alabama agreed to keeping Nick Saban on a long-term deal of $55.2 million through 2022.

Over the last 4 years, Calipari has produced the most freshman drafted in the first found for the NBA at 10. This doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon with Julius Randle a top pick this year and the Harrison brothers having an intriguing future ahead. Along with forwards Trey Lyles and Karl Towns as well as guards Devin Booker and Tyler Ulis joining the team next year as freshmen, Calipari will continue recruit more top players around the country and have no second thoughts joining a purple and gold situation ever. He’s now the 2nd highest paid coach in all of the NCAA and only trails Duke Blue Devils Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski.
