Warriors Sweep Spurs and Advance to Third Straight NBA Finals

It was inevitable. The Golden State Warriors were on the path to the NBA Finals since before the beginning of the year when they acquired Kevin Durant in the offseason.

With no Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker and LaMarcus Aldridge not being able to carry the San Antonio Spurs on his back, Coach Popovich and company didn’t have enough firepower to hang with the shooting prowess of Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. The Warriors were just too much.

On Tuesday night, Golden State put the nail in the coffin for the Spurs year.

Curry dropped 36 points on San Antonio, with Durant adding 29 points and 11 rebounds. Draymond Green also had 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists, while Klay Thompson‘s scoring struggles continue. The other Splash Brother finished with only 10 points.

On the other side of things, it was a bad night for the starters. Aldridge only scored 8 points. Patty Mills had 14 points, Jonathan Simmons finished with 13 points and Manu Ginobli scored 15 points on what may be his last game in a Spurs jersey. Their leading scorer? Kyle Anderson, who dropped 20 points off the bench.

With the win, the Warriors head into the NBA Finals going 12-0 in the playoffs, becoming the only team in history to do so. They will also get nine days of rest before they play another game, which could prove to be a big advantage over who we presume to be the Cleveland Cavaliers.
