Zion Williamson Says He Wants to Remain with Pelicans His Whole Career

With the NBA season still a few months away from its start, one of the more polarizing players on the court next year will be none other than No. 1 pick Zion Williamson. The newest franchise player for the New Orleans Pelicans is ready for the season to start and his perception of the organization is interesting.

In an interview with Complex, Zion spoke about being with the Pels the rest of his career and why:

“Personally, I’ve always told myself I want to stay with one team. Growing up, I loved what Kobe did and Dirk did, and I think if anybody’s a Michael Jordan fan, they kinda erase the Wizards thing. He still did very well there, but at the end of the day, I don’t think people look at it from the business point of view. Some people want to stay with one team but they get traded. My intentions are to stay with the Pelicans my whole career, but if something happens, I wouldn’t leave because I hate the place. It’s just the business.”

He also talked about his expectations this season and why he is always reaching for a championship, but it might take a little while for his team to gel:

“Me being confident in my teammates, I would say I think the ceiling is [a] championship. But I have to be realistic about this. I have high expectations for us, but you gotta see how we’re gonna work. I think we are going to work, but it does take time to adjust to each player—knowing what they like to do, finding out their tendencies. So I think the quicker we find out those things, I think we have a very high ceiling.”

Among some of the other things he spoke about is whether or not he wants to link with RJ Barrett later in his career to play on the same team, why he loves He Got Game so much and his thoughts on the new NBA 2K20 video game.
