The NX arrives spring 2017!

Ahead of last week’s e3, GameStop held an investor earnings call to discuss the upcoming Xbox Scorpio and PlayStation Neo consoles. During the conversation, CEO Paul Raines, was questioned whether or not the Nintendo NX would have physical media, as rumors have circulated over recent months that the Japanese company could be going an entire digital route in 2017.

He revealed that the retailer chain is planning to have a large role in its launch next spring, as physical media will be key their pre-owned business. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t comment on cartridge format reveal that was teased last month – simply saying they don’t know about it.

However, nearly every caller during the meeting preferred the cartridge format, as opposed to digital media saying, “The only difference between discs and cartridges, would be on the refurbishment and pre-owned side. And actually, cartridges are much simpler to refurbish and repackage. So there is somewhat a little bit of an advantage if it went in that direction.”

Just last week, after the Sony and Microsoft system announcements, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, said his company would focus on content – instead of teraflops. While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was one of the standout presentations during e3, it looked severally dated on the Wii U; but we’re hoping it sees some type of upgrade on the NX.
