BLOW ME!

With the exception of confirming a March 2017 worldwide release date, Nintendo has been quiet regarding all information pertaining to its upcoming Nintendo NX console. Like, literally nothing else has been revealed, outside of next-generation Zelda launch day-one for the upcoming console.

However, new reports have surfaced from Taiwanese site Money-Link, indicating that The Big N could be reverting back to cartridges for the new console. Macronix, a manufacture of non-volatile memory, expects a drastic increase in orders leading up to the release of Nintendo’s next release – beyond the company producing cartridges for the current 3DS mobile device.

Company chairman of Macronix, Wu Miin, discussed the pending rumor saying,

“Macronix’s ROM chips are usually supplied to videogame console maker, Nintendo. Although the sales are in off season during the first quarter, the revenue is similar compared with the same period last year. Wu Miin suggested that as Nintendo had just announced it will release a new generation console in March next year, and the console will be launched at the same time in Japan, America and Europe, so ROM’s sales is expected to increase in the latter half of this year, and it will have a large growth potential.”

If the rumors hold up, the need to have mandatory game installations, like its competitors of Sony and Microsoft, could make way for a more portable console – something we’re sure Nintendo is taking into consideration for their hybrid handheld/home console. The cartridges, which Macronix couldn’t directly discuss, are also rumored to feature the capacity of 32GB, which would be nearly half the Blu-Ray disc size both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One featured at the moment.

As the company plans for its worldwide reveal for The Legend of Zelda (also releasing on the Wii-U), the Nintendo showroom flow at e3 next month could very well attract the most attention of the entire event. Let us know in the comments if you would be intrigued for the hybrid mobile-home console featuring cartridges or a complete digital transition.
