Ken Griffey Jr. Revealed as Cover Athlete for ‘MLB: The Show 17’

#TheKidIsBack in The Show in 2017

We’re not quite sure how many of our viewers even play MLB The Show, but this is one of my personal favorite sports games to play outside of NFL Madden and occasionally NBA 2K. The World Series is currently going on with the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs in what could possibly be one of the best match-ups in fall classic history in recent years. What better time than now for the folks at Sony’s San Diego Studios to unveil the cover athlete of the 2017 edition of their PlayStation exclusive.

MLB: The Show 17 will feature none other than The Kid, Ken Griffey Jr., who, in my eyes, is one of the greatest baseball players to ever step inside the diamond. Griffey is also nine-months removed from being robbed as the first ever unanimous MLB Hall of Famer. So what better honor to have than to be featured on the cover of the only credible baseball game out there.

In past games in the series, MLB The Show has never featured a former baseball player, as they kept it focused on current talent around the legend, so Griffey stands alone as the only Hall of Famer to grace the cover in the gaming franchises history. Previous cover athletes included Josh Donaldson, Yasiel Puig, Miguel Cabrera, David Ortiz, Ryan Howard, Joe Mauer, and Andrew McCutchen.

It has yet to be announced if Junior will be in the game as a playable athlete, but we’re hoping for a chance to take him into the one of our favorite game modes, the Home Run Derby, and seeing that signature and iconic swing in action once again. Oh, and of course winning title after title like he did during his years in the league.

Below you can check out the details of the special editions of the game you can pre-order and purchase.
