Will this game ever release?

Four years ago, Capcom dropped one of the biggest titles this decade, with crossover fighting game Street Fighter X Tekken. As some time has passed, the original plan was for Bandai Namco Entertainment to welcome the Street Fighter series to their 3D elements (as opposed to 2D in the previous installment) for Tekken X Street Fighter. However, lead developer Katsuhiro Harada revealed the fighter is on hold and told fans not to expect the title any time.

Following the release of PlayStation 4’s Street Fighter V and the upcoming rollout of Tekken 7, he cited the game is in limbo – but did assure fans that it wasn’t cancelled. While some are holding their breath for an inevitable cancellation, we’re hopeful Namco can transition focus back to the title, after they’re done with developing Virtual Reality content for T7.

I have to ask about Tekken X Street Fighter. Where is it?

Harada: That’s a difficult question to answer. When we develop fighting games, we try to keep the core community in mind as well as the wider audience that wants to play these games. But currently the situation is with fighting games, you have Street Fighter V that just released–a lot of people are playing that fervently–and there’s a large crowd out there waiting or Tekken 7. We don’t want to split these communities, so a good window in which to release Tekken x Street Fighter is something that’s become difficult recently. So it’s on hold for the moment.
