Aaliyah’s Family Disapproves of Lifetime Biopic

The Haughton family not fans of Lifetime’s biopic “AALIYAH: PRINCESS OF R&B”, plan to void production plans.

Earlier this week, teen singer-dancer and actress Zendaya was casted to play the role of Aaliyah. The 17-year-old Disney star was greeted with harsh criticism on social media from fans of the late singer, but remained in positive sprits on landing the huge role. Based on the book Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, the Haughton family made public comments about the upcoming Lifetime Biopic, saying the story should be made for a theatrical release.

The singer’s former manager and uncle, Barry Hankerson revealed the family is not against a biopic, but some of her stature should be properly displayed to the masses in comparison to a TV movie. They’re planning to stop production on the Lifetime film, which could become a messy situation if news like this keeps circulating to the public.

Continue after the jump for more on the story.

The family did have prior problems with her brand usage with Drake, when it was later revealed Timbaland and Missy Elliot had nothing to do with a full album the OVO camp was readying for the public. They would however, Chris Brown to use her sounds for “Don’t Think They Know” last year.

Casting director, Twinkie Byrd recently spoke to YBF after the Zendaya announcement saying she’s coincidentally “One In A Million.” In the midst of calling her the absolute best choice for the film, he went to say,

“Zendaya embodies everything you want in a Actress to play Aaliyah. She is a Poised, Professional, STRONG Actress (studied at California Shakespeare Theater and American Conservatory Theater). A Triple Threat Actor, Singer Dancer. She LOVES AALIYAH and will do a Wonderful Job! She is of mixed ethnicity. Her name is Bantu (Zimbabwe) meaning “To Give Thanks”.

Let’s not Hate on it but Congratulate! She is a GREAT CHOICE!”

Casting for other actors in Aaliyah: Prince of R&B is set to begin in the coming weeks in Canada, before filming starts later this year. While the Lifetime TV picture seems most likely at this point, we’re with family in presenting Aaliyah in the biggest possible platform imaginable with a movie release on the big screens.
