Did Lifetime make the right pick or is this outright blasphemy?
After receiving word late last year that a Aaliyah biopic was in the works, the search for who would take on the leading role of “Baby Girl” was underway. Today, news broke that Disney star and singer Zendaya Coleman would be portraying the late singer in the upcoming film, Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.
Zendaya, who shares a fair resemblance to the late singer and even cites her as one of her many musical influences, is no stranger to being featured on the big screen, starring in numerous Disney channel shows and movies. She also is a singer and released her self-titled debut album last year, that featured the popular single “Replay.”
UPDATE: Zendaya drops out of the biopic after the project was put on hold because of Aaliyah’s family stern stance on preventing the film from releasing.

While we still have no word on when any of the many rumored posthumous albums will be releasing or if they’re even still in the works, we can be sure to look forward to a entertaining biopic that will highlight the late entertainers career. The film is set to begin shooting in the next few weeks and will premiere some time within the next year on Lifetime.
