What’s next for the future of DC Comics?
Last night, AT&T revealed details of its second major purchase over the last 18 months, with the acquisition of Time Warner for $85 Billion. Not to be confused with Time Warner Cable, which is a completely different entity owned by Charter Communications, AT&T will now absorb Warner Bros., DC Comics, HBO, CNN, TNT, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim among others.
This marks a follow-up deal to their $50 Billion purchase of DirecTV in 2014, as AT&T will look plans to combat cord-cutting holding notable premium and subscription-based channels. Our biggest concern, however, is the future of the DC Comics and its film division.
While AT&T finally owns major franchise characters with both Batman and Superman, they didn’t manage to get outright ownership of the Harry Potter character – whose film franchise was ran by Warner Bros. Look for more details to surface in the coming months regarding potentially newly announced streaming services and changes to the DC Universe.
