Chance The Rapper and Donald Glover Have Been Nominated for EMMYs

RELATED: A Full List of the 2017 EMMY Nominations

Both Chance the Rapper and Donald Glover are successful in their own respect, even outside of the music. After the announcement of the EMMYs today, both have garnered critical acclaim and have been nominated in different categories. Chano is up for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for “Last Christmas” found in a Saturday Night Live sketch. On “Jingle Barack,” Chance parodied RUN DMC’s “Christmas In Hollis” for the December special.

On the other side, Glover has been nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, Directing for a Comedy Series and Writing for a Comedy Series for his show Atlanta. The show is also up for multiple nominations in other categories, including Best Comedy Series. In both categories, he’s going up against the likes of Aziz Ansari’s Master of None, HBO’s Silicon Valley, Anthony Anderson, VEEP and more.

We hope both take home some awards when the EMMYs roll around and that voters put their faith in each one’s work. They deserve it for pushing the culture forward.

Other rap nominees include Snoop Dogg for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-competition Program thanks to his work alongside Martha Stewart in Martha And Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party and LL Cool J for Outstanding Structured Reality Program because of Lip Sync Battle.

The EMMY Awards will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and air live on September 17 at 5pm PST on CBS. The show will be hosted by Stephen Colbert.
