David Oyelowo played the great Martin Luther King in Selma but was snubbed of all Oscar nominations that year. Now he’s back with a new drama co-starring Rosamund Pike, which tells the story of an inter-racial marriage that shook the world. A United Kingdom is a period piece that goes back to 1948 and follows the love life of Seretse Khama and his wife Ruth Williams Khama.
From being discriminated because of their romance to the political exile and outright denouncement of his people (Khama was part of a royal family in Africa), this film is sure to catch some eyes when it hits the film festivals. Maybe Oyelowo gets some Oscar nods too.
The Amma Asante-directed A United Kingdom is due out November 25, 2016.
