Warner Bros. Gets Multiple-Season Commitment for ‘Lord of the Rings’ TV Series

Coming to Amazon Prime!

Last week, Amazon revealed they were nixing plans to upstart their own live-TV service. For nearly a year, the retailer teased plans of streaming channels, to compete with the others; but felt way too many sharks were in the tank for that type of risk (Apple TV, YouTubeTV, Sling TV, PlayStation Vue).

Now, Warner Bros. and Amazon have confirmed this week, they’ve officially landed rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise. The retail and streaming giant has officially inked the series to a multi-season commitment, with potential additional spin-off shows. The series will proceed Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring, as well as having a middle-earth setting.

Considering HBO was looking for a show to succeed their pending finale for Game of Thrones in 2019, it looks like they’ll be going back to drawing board for now. Let us know in the comments if you think Amazon Instant Video was the right home for a LOTR TV series.
