Disney Dates Live-Action ‘The Lion King’ & ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Films

Lion King x Episode IX x Indiana Jones V

Today, Disney and Lucasfilm announced a slew of high-profile movies, for their upcoming decade’s end release schedule. As expected, Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars Episode IV was given a before 2020 rollout; as Disney booked a May 24, 2019 date for the final installment of their sequel trilogy.

The studio also delayed the next Indiana Jones move an entire year, moving it to July 10, 2020 – which we’re sure non-millennials won’t care in their transition to pure PG. However, the big news from Walt Disney Motion Pictures, was the theatrical release date announcement for The Lion King.

The upcoming remake is set to abandon its past animated realm, as Donald Glover will star as Simba in the live-action project. Disney confirmed that it would hit theaters on July 19, 2019, taking the place of the original Indiana Jones 5 slot. Unfortunately, the company is remaining very tight-lipped about their project; which is presumably set to begin filming in a few months.

James Earl Jones (Mufasa) is the only actor that will reprise his role from the 1994 musical. Look for possible likely holiday teasers to emerge for both major box office projects later this year.
