There’s always been debate about whether Southern artists have lyrics or if that’s just an East Coast thing, but over time we’ve seen a bit of a change. With Scarface, Outkast and other showing they could rap and New York producing subpar spitters, the sterotype doesn’t quite match.
2 Chainz and Lil Wayne talked about that sentiment and explained how they feel about it, with Weezy recalling a story back in his early Cash Money days. He said Juvenile pulled him to the side one day and told him to keep spitting with flow, because even though Birdman didn’t go crazy over the ‘money, hoes and cash’ lyrics Turk did, Wayne had that hip-hop in him that would carry him.
And the rest is history.
