A Look at Meek Mill’s Career Wins and Losses

‘Wins and Losses’ out this week!

Meek Mill is getting ready to release his highly-anticipated third studio album, Wins & Losses, later this week. An album that’s highlighted with the singles “Whatever You Need” featuring Chris Brown and Ty Dolla $ign and “Young Black America” with The-Dream. There’s no denying that Meek Mill has been killing the game since returning with DC4 in October of last year.

We’ve gotten two projects in between that also boasted a number of standout songs that have only added to the hype surrounding his new album. Which, since being announced, has had the internet having fun with the title saying Meek has suffered way more losses than wins over the last couple of years.

But like many artists, Meek Mill has taken some wins and losses over the course of his career. With an album title as such, we decided to look back on the Philly rapper’s career and highlight some of the W’s and L’s that have come his way since breaking out in 2011 up until the last year or so.

Continue below and check out our breakdown of some of the wins and losses that Meek has received over the years.

Meek Mill’s Wins and Losses releases this Friday, July 21st.

Wins:

Gold plaques:

Dreams & Nightmares” Album
Prior signing to Maybach Music, Meek Mill was already one of the most talked about artists coming out. Mainly through his various mixtapes and popular songs. It wasn’t until teaming up with Rick Ross when Meek’s buzz grew even bigger. Coming out the gate with the hit songs “Tupac Back” and “Ima Boss,” the Philadelphia rapper showed his hunger and poise to want to take the rap world by storm.

He did just that when his debut album Dreams & Nightmares released and impressed critics and listeners alike. Dreams & Nightmares debuted at No. 2 on the the Billboard 200 chart and racked up 165,000 copies sold in the first week. The album brought Meek Mill his first certified gold plaque as far as his albums go.

House Party” feat. Young Chris
Following the success of his major single releases of “Tupac Back” and “Ima Boss,” Meek Mill showed that he had something for the weekend parties with the track “House Party.” One of the singles featured on his first Dreamchasers mixtape. The song was as energetic as the two previously mentioned singles, but more party vibes were presented on the Young Chris assisted cut. At the time, this track was eating up the clubs and was able to land him another gold certification.

Dreams and Nightmares (Intro)
The intro to Meek Mill’s debut album is probably one of the hottest and if not, the best, opening song on a album in the last few years. In my eyes, it’s definitely up there with JAY-Z’s “Dynasty Intro.” The song is considered a classic to some and really set the tone for the album and received praise from a lot of artist in rap, including Drake who sited the song as “one of the best rap moments of our generation.”

If you have never seen or heard this song performed live, hopefully you hit up a Meek concert in the future, because it still drives the crowd insane when he performs it years later.

Amen” feat. Drake
The first collaboration from Meek Mill and Drake started as a track featured on Meek’s 2012 Dreamchasers 2 and also featured guest vocals from Jeremih. It became one of his hottest songs out, so much so, that it had to be considered as an official single for Dreams and Nightmares. “Amen” was just the start of something for the two, where we’re sure fans would have loved to hear them together on a number of songs, considering the success it had. But we were only lucky to get one more with that being “R.I.C.O.”

Dreams Worth More Than Money” Album
Though it took three years, Meek Mill finally followed up his successful debut with his sophomore album Dreams Worth More Than Money. Thanks to his acclaimed Dreamchasers mixtape series, that waiting period was worth it, after songs from Dreamchasers 3 and Self Made Vol. 3
kept the streets on fire.

The streets were still hungry though, and with songs like “Check” and “All Eyes On You” tearing up the charts, Meek Mill was on his way to dropping another solid album. It’s safe to say he did it again. The album is his best selling project to date, and he secured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 charts by moving 246,000 copies in the first week.

Litty” feat. Tory Lanez
When it almost seemed like everything he dropped wasn’t hitting, Meek Mill finally came back with one of his hottest songs since 2015. That song was the DC4 cut “Litty” featuring Toronto rapper and then rival of Drake, Tory Lanez. Their second collaboration since their connection on the DWMTM song turned Creed single “Lord Knows.”

The song became Meek’s highest charting single since “R.I.C.O.” As one of the hottest songs off DC4 it was kind of surprising to see that it took seven months for them to release an official video. That didn’t stop the song from receiving a gold certification from the RIAA.

Awards:
Since his start, Meek has been nominated for a number of awards. Seven in total, and has walked away as the the winner of two. The first being his Best Mixtape Award for Dreamchasers 2, which he won at the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards. The other, a surprising win of Top Rap Album for Dreams Worth More Than Money at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. Where he was up against Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, Drake & Future’s What a Time to Be Alive, Dr. Dre’s Compton and Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly.

Platinum plaques:

All Eyes on You” feat. Nicki Minaj & Chris Brown
One of the three singles from Meek Mill’s DWMTM album was the Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown featured cut “All Eyes On You.” It was the first song that Meek and Nicki teamed up on since becoming a couple and the accompanying video that saw the two sharing their love for one another. The record fought its way up the charts and became one of Meek’s highest charting singles to date. That, plus the song went platinum. With the help of the Barbz and Chris’ fans.

R.I.C.O. feat. Drake
The collaboration fans were waiting on since their previous work on “Amen.” After the success of that song, it was only a matter of time before Drake and Meek Mill hooked up again. Both artist were sitting comfortably on top of the music game and another connection only seemed right. The second collaboration from Meek and Drake was even more successful than the previous. Some of that can probably be credited to their feud that turned in to an ongoing rap beef.

Losses:

Death of Lil Snupe
As one of the more serious losses of Meek’s career came when he lost his protégé Lil Snupe back in 2013. Snupe was an on the rise New Orleans rapper who was shot and killed at the tender young age of 18. The young rapper had a promising career ahead of him, but unfortunately his life was cut short and has since been remembered through his music. Not only that, but he has continued to be shouted out by Meek Mill and other artists he made impressions on through various songs. One of the most notable being “Lil Nigga Snupe.”

Drake Battle
One of the most talked about beefs in hip-hop in quite some time, was no doubt Meek Mill vs Drake. Meek alleged that Drake didn’t write his “R.I.C.O.” verse as well as numerous other songs from the 2015 If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late album. And named the alleged ghostwriter, Quentin Miller or QM in a series of tweets. What followed was something Meek Mill probably wasn’t expecting.

Drake went on to release the diss song “Charged Up,” and four days later dropped another with “Back to Back.” The latter being nominated for a Grammy, but didn’t win. Not only did the diss records come, but Drake made a show of it at the 6th Annual OVO Fest.

Meek Mill was crucified because he ignited the beef, but took longer than fans wanted him to in order for him to respond. When he did, it was too late and the track itself (“Wanna Know“) was removed from all of his media platforms as if it never existed.

Now two years after it all started, the two have occasionally thrown jabs at each other on songs. Earlier this year Meek Mill admitted that he uses Drake’s “Back to Back” diss as motivation. Because, why not, right?

Nicki Minaj Break-up
Meek Mill had the baddest chick in the game, but lost it all after it was rumored that he was cheating on Nicki Minaj. News broke about the ending of their relationship during Minaj’s birthday weekend at Turks and Caicos in 2016. Where she left a few notes about it all under photos she had posted on her Instagram. Nicki Minaj publicly addressed the break-up on her song “Regret In Your Tears,” released in March. Meek and Nicki continue to throw shade at one another on Instagram every once and a while.

The Game Beef
Following his beef with Drake and break-up with Nicki Minaj, Compton rapper The Game decided to jump in at come at Meek Mill through various social media posts. Including a couple of diss tracks, “92 Bars” and “Pest Control,” the latter being the nail in the coffin so to say. There wasn’t much of a back-and-forth between the two, but many chalked this one as a loss for Meek, with Game coming out as the victor.

Allegedly Had Quentin Miller Beat Up
After being outed by Meek Mill for being the alleged ghostwriter of Drake, Quentin Miller became a name that everyone was looking up and trying to find out who he was. During an interview with Vlad TV, QM spoke out for the first time and spoke out about a situation that was originally brought up by Taxtone. Recalling the incident, QM went on to confirm all of what Tax said, stating that Meek Mill’s Dreamchasers crew attacked him while in LA.

Allegedly Jumped Safaree
Ever since his split from Nicki Minaj, Safaree was taking shots at the then new lovebirds, Meek Mill and Nicki. The reality TV star, rapper and alleged ghostwriter of Ms. Minaj, Safaree unloaded a diss song or two at the Philly rapper. With Meek reportedly being the cause of his break-up with Nicki Minaj, the two have had it out for each other. Taking jabs here and there.

After keeping it all on wax and on social media for a while, things got physical last month during BET Weekend in Los Angeles. When videos surfaced of Meek Mill pulling up on Safaree and goons of the DCR rapper rushing him and attempting to jump him. Fortunately for him, Safaree was able to escape without any injuries.

Its still unknown if Meek had anything to do with this incident, but if he did, this is an all around loss.
