Another week, and another OnSMASH moment with Mr. GET FAMILIAR!
So I’m in LA & just finished taping E! Daily ten & I talked about a
group called Chromeo during my Get Familiar segment & I strongly suggest
you Get Familiar w/ them, they are such a cool band (if u consider 2
people a band. What is the official number of people to be considered a
band??? (Random thought).I am now on an airplane headed to Cancun to Smash down a spring break
party but I’m very excited because this weekend is going to be crazy @ my weekly
party in Vegas @ Body English in the Hard Rock hotel & Casino because my
boy Ne-yo is coming to hang out & party with me. Right before the
Holidays, end of 07 we did a business deal together & have yet to
celebrate with each other since the paperwork was all signed. Well We
will now celebrate this weekend in Vegas! Other parties planned for
Smashtime Saturdays in Vegas are DJ Felli Fels album release party w/
Jermaine Dupri, Skateboarder Shaun Whites party, Fabolous party,
Akon/Konvict party, Bay area party w/ E-40 & Mistah FAB, Kim Kardashian
party, Diddy party w/ Ciroc, etc.etc.
Also this week I’ve been trying to get clearance on a sample I used for
a Ludacris record I produced & I found out that the sample I used is
Beethovan which makes it public domain aka it doesn’t have to be paid
for…Yesssss!!!! I was also able to knock out 3 more beats this week
which I’m going to write to during my plane ride. Speaking of plane
rides, I just got abbleton live & am about to learn how to use it on my
laptop…This software is Sick! You can literally do mixes on an
airplane ride in your laptop…such a genius product! Shout to DJ white
shadow in Chicago who gave me a crash course. I’m going to buy another
laptop next week to strictly make beats on while I’m on the road & I
will load it w/ protools,Reason & abbleton live…my goal this year is
to make every waking moment of my life productive, otherwise what’s
really the point?Not many people know this but I write not only songs but screenplays,
television shows & stand up comedy. I’ve always been told growing up
“man, you should be a comedian” but I don’t have the balls to get on
stage & tell u a joke. Anyhow I KNOW I have incredible material but its
the lack of ballage that prevents me from trying so I went to lunch w/
my boy actor/comedian Alex Thomas the other day for some pointers, when
I tell you he was blown away from my jokes that would be an
understatement. To the point he would say “hold on, if your not using
those, I will” so I would say his words of encouragement definitely gave
me a little more motivation to try it out, we’ll see….Back to the
musicJust did a D.Block record for the massive mixtape I told ya’ll last week
about…Should be dropping in about a month.. I still haven’t though of
a name for CD yet but ill think of something soon. I’m most likely going
to do it how I did the Kanye West “Touch the sky” mixtape (which
incidentally is in Feb issue of Vibe) but with the Boss Akon this time.
I produced everything on it just like Kanye CD & its all new exclusive
(because I made them) records from Fabolous, Ludacris, Rick Ross, Yung
Joc, Jim Jones, Clipse, Common, Kweli, Fat Joe, Young Buck,
Jadakiss, etc.etc. You need to Get Familiar, its dropping very soon & ill

as well as onsmash.comI also hung out w/ DJ Felli Fel @ his house & he played me music from
his forthcoming album….a lot of hot music & there is one particular
song that is a SMASH! No one was on it yet but he played the beat & sang
me hook idea, its a winner! I keep telling ya’ll Get Familiar w/ the DJ,
we don’t just play the hits….We make them! On that note, I got to
write to some of these beats…catch ya’ll later! Remember to always
