“Not trying to follow anyone’s guidelines makes you successful”

Last week, Big Sean released his third major studio LP, Dark Sky Paradise and made a visit to NPR in Los Angeles for a sit-down interview with Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Frannie Kelley. During the hour-plus conversation, the Detroit rapper opened up on his upcoming trip to London, which he cited the country having a die-hard hip-hop fan base that knows music word-for-word. He soon touched on keeping his drive for music, pushing different rhyme schemes to create sounds that haven’t been done before. In the midst of Frannie surprising Sean with her knowledge sense of samples throughout the project, he also broke down why he titled the album D.S.P. – due to his previous album not being successful as he would like during the peak of his personal issues.

Listen to more from the sit-down above, detailing whether becoming finally famous was worth it and living out some of his dreams with Kanye West for the new LP.
