Over the course of his career, Chance The Rapper has always been questioned on whether he’s independent or not. He has said it time and time again, but folks still have their doubts. Whether it’s his appearances on Saturday Night Live, getting radio airplay or winning GRAMMYs for a Soundcloud album, some still think there’s a record label pulling the strings behind the scenes.
Chano has had enough of the haters and has cleared the air on Twitter, detailing why and how his critically acclaimed album Coloring Book was an Apple Music exclusive.
He said he received $500K to post it on the streaming service first and they cooked up a commercial for him, before he put it on Soundcloud for free. He doesn’t discredit any artists currently on major labels, but has good advice for anyone on the come up.
I never felt the need to correct folks on my relationship with @apple but now that more people have tried to discredit my independence..

I wanna clear things up. @apple gave me half a mil and a commercial to post Coloring Book exclusively on applemusic for 2 weeks https://t.co/dMWwptrHHH

That was the extent of my deal, after 2 weeks it was on SoundCloud for free. I needed the money and they're all good people over there https://t.co/5kIhv0YaKS

So there you have it. Stop questioning Chano and make sure you secure the bag, like he did.
