Whenever we let the classic West Coast playlist rock, half of the songs on there belong to the Bay Area. Growing up on the West Coast, we couldn’t help but to be influenced by the OG’s who would play Too $hort and E-40 constantly. It was a world that opened the door to other artists like Brotha Lynch Hung, Richie Rich, Spice 1, and more. It’s what established the lane the lane for the new generation of MC’s in 2012.
When 2 Chainz said, “my father figure was Too $hort,” he really wasn’t lying. At least in the musical sense, Too $hort remains one of our favorite artists.
So today, we take you back to some of the Bay Area rap we grew up with, including some which we have seen in OS Flashback before. There is plenty of E-40, Rappin 4 Tay and Too $hort on here, but we’re mad Brotha Lynch didn’t record any videos from Season Of The Siccness to add to the mix. Yeah, that Black Market Compilation was a classic.
