Deconstructed with Hagler: The Making of Drake’s “Teenage Fever”

Hagler remakes “Teenage Fever” on Deconstructed

From his name, you’re probably not too familiar with Canadian producer Hagler, but you have definitely heard some of his work. Some of his known production is featured on such tracks as Vince Staples’ “Blue Suede,” A$AP Ferg’s “I Love You” and Drake‘s “Furthest Thing,” “Trophies,” and most recently “Teenage Fever.” The latter of which is the main focus today. Hagler recently sat down with Genius for their Deconstructed series to give a detailed look at the production process of the More Life standout.

He talks about putting his all into the production after going through a crazy situation where he lost his nephew in a fatal car accident. On how the song came about Hagler recalls pulling up to the studio one day and “40” told him that he needed some beats and got right in the studio and went straight to work. Afterwards, he put together a folder of songs he thought made sense for Drake and he ended up making “Teenage Fever.”

One thing he didn’t really speak on was adding the Jennifer Lopez vocals from “If You Had My Love,” which we can only assume was added in the later stages,

Hagler also received co-production credits on “Fire & Desire” off Views alongside Noah “40” Shebib, Jordan Lewis and Marvelous Marvin.
