We’re no strangers to hearing remixes from Kaytranada. He releases them all the time. This ones comes by way of the upcoming 808 documentary that is about the Roland TR-808 drum machine. As you can hear on “Planet Rock,” he’s putting a 2016 spin to Afrika Bambaataa, stripping away some of the rawness the original carried with more production and electronic sounds. A lot of the elements stayed the same, but longtime fans of the Soulsonic Force may favor the 1982 classic.
808 drops December 9 on Apple Music and will be narrated by Zane Low and include interviews with the likes of Rick Rubin, Beastie Boys, Pharrell, Questlove and more.
