Today, reports surfaced that Kendrick Lamar had signed an exclusive, worldwide administration agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group. The move was immediately confirmed by Top Dawg himself saying, “Kendrick and I are excited for our new partnership with Jody Gerson and UMPG. Jody was passionate from the jump – she fought to make this deal happen.”
For whatever reason, silly rumors surfaced that Kenny was leaving his TDE family. However, this was immediately debunked, as Dot trolled the reporters by cutting a beef promo with a blues clues doll.
Jody Gerson, UMPG Chairman and CEO went to say, “Kendrick Lamar is not only one of the greatest lyricists that has ever lived, but he has done as much or more than any artist to promote much needed change in our society through music. I and my colleagues at UMPG are deeply honored to be afforded the opportunity to join Kendrick, Anthony ‘Top Dawg’ Tiffith and the TDE family to help forward his unique and important vision.”
Considering President Punch confirmed that Kendrick was set to drop soon; we’re under the impression that they needed the ink dry on this new deal before they ready something major. In the past, K. Dot has always said that he never wants to rush content and has taken time over the last three years to ready his fifth official album.
Mr. Tiffith always wanted to preserve quality content on the respected label and never allows an artist to release something unfinished. It’s safe to say that our report about why he won’t leave was indeed correct, as he’s working with Top Dawg on potentially securing his masters down the line from the global music corporation.
After executive producing Marvel’s Black Panther original motion picture soundtrack, we’re intrigued on future TDE albums he’ll be overlooking. This ties into new artists he’s working with, beyond the much-anticipated release from his 20-year-old protégé, Baby Keem.
Look for album information from Top Dawg Entertainment to emerge soon.
