We have to be honest, after seeing Macklemore & Ryan Lewis take over last fall with their international-hit “Downtown,” we were expected more upbeat sounds. However, the northwest-based duo has taken a severe left turn, to put focus on an elephant in the room, which couldn’t have arrived at a better time. If you remember in 2014, Mack personally sent Kendrick Lamar an apology for winning Best Rap Album at the GRAMMYs over good kid, m.A.A.d city.
Luckily, K. Dot was given his just due for To Pimp A Butterfly for next month’s awards, with 11 nominations. However, Mack and Ryan are looking past awards and nominations this year to put focus on the #BlackLivesMatter campaign and social issues plaguing us the, with their new single “White Privilege II.” The fresh offering featuring singer Jamila Woods, serves an 11-year follow-up to the original version seen on Macklemore’s 2005 solo album, The Language Of My World.
Look for the pair’s sophomore effort This Unruly Mess I’ve Made out February 26th.
