Mariah Carey Breaks Silence on New Year’s Eve Lip Sync Incident

Mariah Carey was crowned the last death of 2016 and kicked off 2017 as the subject of complete ridicule. As you probably already saw (or heard), the singer was a guest performer for Dick Clarks’s annual New Year’s Rockin Eve celebration and during her set, she fumbled her classic single “Emotions” and “We Belong Together” and exposed herself as a lip sync champion.

After the show, her camp blamed Dick Clark Productions for ‘setting her up to fail’ because her ear piece was not working at the time of her performance.

The show argues that everything was working fine and Mariah was lazy about rehearsal, sending a body double to do the run through a day before instead of doing it herself.

Now, Mariah has finally broken the silence and spoke out about the failure herself.

“All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business. I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time. It’s not going to stop me from doing a live event in the future. But it will make me less trusting of using anyone outside of my own team.

It really was an incredible holiday season that turned into a horrible New Year’s Eve.”

And by ‘it’s not going to stop me from doing a live event in the future’ she actually means, she’s going to double check and make sure her lip syncing isn’t exposed again.

Here’s a suggestion for next time: Just sing, Mariah.
