The unsung hero of good kid m.A.A.d city, the man behind the board, Derek “Mixed By” Ali, sits down for a very rare interview on “Off The Record.” In the video, he speaks on how he got into engineering at the ripe age of 16, and connected with Dave Free & Punch from TDE. He says he appreciates the fact that he can give Kendrick Lamar and the rest of the crew input on their records, even if it might not be good advice in the end.
The most interesting part of the conversation is his commentary on shadowing Dr. Dre. Never do we hear of someone being taken under his wing like that, but Ali seems to have found the teachings and advice of the master doctor, and attributes his growth to him.
