Spotify Hit With $1.6 Billion Dollar Lawsuit For Using Songs Without License

Spotify is in a world of legal trouble, considering they just got hit with a massive lawsuit in a California federal court. Wixen Music Publishing has filed a copyright suit against the streaming giant, alleging that the company has been using their catalog without licenses and compensation. They want $1.6 billion dollars from the damages, as well as attorney’s fees and the proper measures to “develop and implement procedures for identifying and properly licensing songs.”

Part of their clients include Missy Elliott, The Black Keys, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Santana, Rage Against the Machine, Rick James, and The Doors.
