Spotify To Test Out Major Label Sponsored Songs in Playlists

Those playlists on Spotify that you’ve grown to love are being invaded by major labels thanks to a new feature proposed by the streaming service, that will allow the labels to add songs to free-tier users who follow certain playlists. Users can currently opt-out of them, but the feature will allow labels to push for or add buzz to their artists so users could discover the individual records they’re pushing at the moment.

As of now, only brands could sponsor playlists.

This promotional tool is meant to drive more revenue to the platform, who saw a reported 539.2 million euro net loss last year, even though they added 20 million paid subscribers.
