Is the black hippy album coming next year?
Last week, Top Dawg took to social media and gave the world a look at TDE’s album schedule – featuring new projects from the entire roster. With Kendrick Lamar’s new album untitled unmastered. in the hands of the public, Punch and Soundwave of the Los Angeles-based company spoke with Billboard to give extended details. Top went to hint on his twitter page that Isaiah Rashad would be up next vaguely saying “TN,” in reference to his home state of Tennessee.
Both the co-president and in-house producer explained how ScHoolboy Q was in the final stretches of his major sophomore album, with Ab-Soul and SZA also near the final stages of their projects.
While the two didn’t reveal details on their two newest artists to the imprint, they did explain what’s holding up the long-awaited Black Hippy album. With the four rappers having successful solo careers, getting them all in the same room has been an issue with scheduling conflicts. Jay Rock, Solo, Hoover Q and Dot have all said they’re open to recording the project together, but we really need Top to get them on the phone and give the public what they want.
Punch and Sound went to say, “That’s the thing. Everybody has their individual careers, so it’s tough to find the time for everybody to get back together. We’re really just going to have to block out a couple of months, or however long, and just lock everybody in the studio like the old days. We don’t like to send records, e-mail verses. When we get into the studio, we get everybody into the studio. It has to be the best vibes and work being put forth. So we take our time with it. I’m sure the Black Hippy album will happen, but as of right now I can’t tell you when.”
