Tracy Chapman Sues Nicki Minaj

Tracy Chapman has sued Nicki Minaj over her song “Sorry,” according to a report by Pitchfork.

Chapman claims that Nicki’s unreleased Nas collaboration uses the lyrics and vocal melody of “Baby Can I Hold You,” which was done so without permission. The lawsuit says these parts are “easily recognizable and identifiable as Chapman’s.” Chapman is suing Nicki for damages, with an order to prevent Nicki from officially releasing the track.

Nicki publicly and privately asked Chapman to clear the sample, but was denied, meaning “Sorry” didn’t make it onto her QUEEN album.
