Jon Stewart’s shocking heel turn
The most talked about storyline involving the entire night of SummerSlam was the Jon Stewart swerve. Many in attendance, including ourselves expected the traditional John Cena finish at a big pay-per-view to walk away with the belts and defy the odds, like he’s been doing for over a decade (see: same ol’ shit); but we were hit with a curve-ball. During the title-unification match of the WWE and U.S. belts, Seth Rollins showcased an array of aerial attacks, as Cena’s springboard stunner completely being ignored by the crowd.
After one mishap with the referee, Cena became vulnerable, which the evening’s guest host Jon Stewart coming out to tease a potential heel-turn. While he hinted at hitting both competitors in the ring, the crowd was still unaware of a potential finish where Cena would actually lose. Stewart became the hero for the night to many, hitting John with a chair, as Rollins would walk away as the undisputed champion for the night.
