It is peak NBA trade deadline season, mostly because teams are scrambling to strengthen and make a push in the playoffs or clearing cap space for the summer in the midst of a big free agent class. Depending on who you root for, your franchise may be in tank mode or in win-now mentality.
From the Boston Celtics needing to come together and play better together to the Milwaukee Bucks surprisingly being the number one team in the East and the Toronto Raptors quietly right behind, it seems like everyone is trying to load up and get better to end the season. Will the Houston Rockets acquire some pieces to help James Harden? The Los Angeles Clippers are looking to tank the rest of the year for a better draft pick and get in the summer free agency sweepstakes, so who will sneak in to the Western Conference playoffs this season? Can the Golden State Warriors get richer and add someone through buyouts?
Here are some of the big trades that have gone down today:
The New Orleans Pelicans will keep Anthony Davis past the trade deadline, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Philadelphia 76ers: Traded Markelle Fultz to Orlando Magic for Jonathan Simmons, a first-round and a second-round pick
Orlando Magic president Jeff Weltman and GM John Hammond consider the Fultz acquisition as a low-risk, high-reward proposition. Magic will proceed with his arrival as long-term project and like chances w/ Steve Clifford and his staff getting to work with the former No. 1 pick.

Memphis Grizzlies: Traded Marc Gasol to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, CJ Miles and a 2024 second-round pick
New Orleans Pelicans: Traded Nikola Mirotic to Milwaukee Bucks for Jason Smith, Stanley Johnson and multiple second-round picks
Mirotic made a major impact on the Pelicans push to the Western Conference semifinals upon arriving in New Orleans prior to last year's trade deadline. Now, Bucks -- the East's best team -- get even better. And they don't have to give up a first-round pick.

Carmelo Anthony is a possible addition for the Lakers, but not an inevitability a team source tells ESPN. LAL will monitor the buyout market and will also consider a piece that could fortify their depth at PG or C, two positions they’ve been hit with injuries this season

Nearly 3 hours away from the NBA's trade deadline and ... the Lakers-Pelicans talks on Anthony Davis are dormant, league sources tell ESPN. No communication, nor an expectation that they'll even speak today. Pelicans seem content to run out the clock.

One factor in the Grizzlies not trading Mike Conley: They value him as a mentor for Jaren Jackson Jr., a 19-year-old being groomed as the future face of the franchise. Conley was not eager to leave Memphis.
