Anthony Davis Dodges Free Agency Questions, Talks Respect for His Game

Not one to usually make headlines, but Anthony Davis has been the talk of the summer around the NBA. Not as much as other players (obviously), but he made some moves and rumors surfaced about his upcoming free agency the past few months.

For one, he changed management and signed with Klutch Sports to expand his brand, instantly sparking A.D. to Los Angeles Lakers rumors.

During a recent talk with Rachel Nichols, Davis was asked some of these things and about the coming season with the New Orleans Pelicans. As far as those rumors, he said he can’t correlate how the talk came about (sure, buddy) but neither confirmed or denied the statements. He said he was focused on this year and being the best player he can and at the least put himself in the conversation of best player in the NBA. At the end of the day, he just wants to win.

“Honestly, I see myself as the best player in the league, most dominant player in the league. I think it’s time for that step. You only get a short window. And, I don’t want that window to close, so I think my time is now.

It’s — don’t get me wrong — those two are great, great players, but I think I bring something unique to the table. My game is different from both of those guys. Both ends on the floor. I was MVP candidate and Defensive Player of the Year candidate, and so that’s why I feel like my name should be at the top of that list.”

He also told ESPN that he’s had to step up to the plate as a leader on the team now that DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo aren’t there anymore, and it’s been fun for him.

It’ll be interesting to see how the season goes for him and how things play out. Hopefully he stay healthy and dominates the league like he can.
