Canelo Alvarez & Amir Khan Fight Set for May 7th

Pray for Amir Khan’s Chin, though

Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin has a fight set for this April to defend his multiple titles, but it sadly won’t be against Canelo Alvarez. Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions made the formal announcement this afternoon, that Canelo would be defending his WBC Middleweight title May 7th against Amir Khan. While Alvarez is only a few weeks removed from destroying Miguel Cotto over the holidays, Khan hasn’t had a fight since his WBC Silver Welterweight title defense against Chris Algieri last May. Presented by HBO, the bout is set to be a 155-pound catch-weight fight, which will play in favor to the over sized Canelo at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

In the midst of Oscar De La Hoya’s $300-million-dollar suit against Khan’s boxing manager, Al Haymon, for alleged boxing monopolizing, we’re really shocked at both sides briefly putting their differences aside for this fight. With Haymon serving as manager and a promoter, the idea of him not willing to do business with De La Hoya or Top Rank’s Bob Arum can be put to rest, as he’s one of the few trying to help the fighters best interest – from the outside looking in.

As fans await an imminent announcement for Triple G to battle either Gabriel Rosado or Willie Monroe, the showdown with Alvarez will indeed happen this fall. Let us know in the comments if you expect Amir’s in-ring skills to overcome the wrath of Alvarez for an entire 12 rounds.
