Carmelo Anthony & Paul George Were Supposed To Go To the Cavs

It was a long time coming for Carmelo Anthony to get himself out of New York. He wanted out of the Knicks and it finally happened. But how he was going to get out of Madison Square Garden was the big question going into the offseason.

Obviously we know he made his way to Oklahoma City to join Russell Westbrook and Paul George, but things could have been so much different.

He told ESPN’s Ian Begley on Sirius XM that there was an NBA Draft deal that was going to send him and PG13 to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and it didn’t go through.

“Me and PG have a very close friendship. Actually, it was funny because me and PG was supposed to be in Cleveland on draft night. We were communicating about that. The deal was actually done and it got called off on draft night, so me and PG stayed connected throughout the course of the season.”

There was a deal in place to the Houston Rockets that fell through too.

“A deal was done with Houston early, then for some reason, whatever happened behind the scenes, it didn’t go through. It fell through, then we had to really start paying attention and thinking about other options.”

Regardless of what was supposed to happen, the facts are he still wound up alongside George and the two are hoping to make a run in the Western Conference with MVP Russ.
