Chicago Bulls Send Derrick Rose To New York Knicks in Trade

Chicago Bulls v Boston Celtics

If you thought the NBA trades were done for the day (after Jeff Teague found a new home in Indiana with the Pacers thanks to that 3-team deal), you were absolutely wrong. Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks are out here on the phones making some moves of their own as well.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose will be heading to the Big Apple alongside Justin Holiday in a trade that will see Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon and Jerian Grant in the Windy City. The Knicks will also receive a second round pick in 2017.

Rose hasn’t been the same since suffering a myriad of injuries the past couple of years and with the move, the Bulls are pretty much solidifying the fact that they will build the team around Jimmy Butler moving forward. This ends Rose’s eight year run with Chicago, after being drafted No. 1 overall in the 2008 NBA Draft. He was a hometown hero for fans, taking the Bulls to the playoffs and becoming the youngest NBA MVP in history.

With the NBA Draft only one day away, it looks like the organization will concentrate on drafting a big man or a wing player, considering Joakim Noah and Pau Gasol are all but out.

After missing the playoffs last season, the Bulls are looking to rebuild quickly and have a solid young core to do it with. Will Butler lead them to the promise land?
